The society's quarterly journal keeps our members informed of developments, local issues and society activities, including forthcoming events.

It's essential reading for everyone who cares about Shoreham and the surrounding area.

The current edition (Summer 2010) includes:

  • Shoreham Society's anniversary - commemorative plaques have been awarded to five conservation projects judged by the society's committee to have significantly contributed to the local built environment.
  • Introducing our new chairman - Shoreham resident Gerard Rosenberg, a TV and film producer and specialist in mental health training, takes over the reins of the society's committee.
  • St Mary's Church Hall - an update on the rejection of controversial redevelopment proposals and a reflection on the surprising nature of the planning inspector's decision, which could mean the story is not yet over.
  • Past chairmen remember - continuing our series about former society chairmen, this time featuring Gretel Graville.
  • Griff Rhys Jones defends nimbyism - the comedian, presenter and conservationist argues that people have a duty to look after their own localities.
  • Pond Road proposals - a summary of the changes made to Adur Council's planning brief, which is currently being considered by the Shoreham Society because several concerns remain.

The Spring 2010 edition included:

  • Pond Road redevelopment proposals - Shoreham Society keeps raising the difficult questions and challenging the answers.
  • Shoreham Beach footbridge - consultation planned to explore options and concerns.
  • Old Fort - the new action group further explores scope for restoring the historic site.
  • Shoreham Society - an overview of its role and prospects as the AGM looms and more committee members are sought.
  • Transport - an alternative view about how the local road infrastructure needs to develop to meet future needs.
  • Daniel Roberts - an insight into the youngest son of Captain Henry Roberts, a naval colleague of the celebrated Captain Cook, and the importance of both father and son to Shoreham.
  • Marlipins Museum - an update on the formation of the new Friends group and the proposals to revitalise voluntary support.
  • John Grover - continuing our series of articles on past chairman, we talk to John about his term of office, when proposals for the Ropetackle development loomed large.

The Winter 2009/10 edition included:

  • Chairman's letter - recalling some of the past year's big development issues and urging members to let their views be known.
  • Pond Road redevelopment proposals - potentially more controversial than Ropetackle. Read the article here.
  • Kingston Barn - the Shoreham Society's comments on plans to convert this historic building into houses.
  • Shoreham Society's 25th anniversary - two former chairmen look back at the society's formation and development.
  • Marlipins Museum - the owners outline proposals to set up a new Friends group and revitalise the museum's operation. Read the article here.
  • Minimum room sizes - guidelines have been proposed for minimum floor spaces in new flats and houses and are being recommended to Adur Council.
  • Flood defence - surveys are to be undertaken by the Environment Agency to ascertain whether improvements are needed to the west bank of the River Adur between the harbour mouth and the A27 flyover.

The Autumn 2009 edition included:

  • Kingston Barn - report on the latest planning application for this historic barn, this time to convert it into four dwellings.
  • Coastguard tower - a proposal to convert it an art gallery, studio and cafe move forward.
  • Shoreham Old Fort - a detailed history of the ancient structure and an update on plans to restore it. Read the article here.

  • Tarmount Lane - temporary but welcome re-use of buildings due for eventual redevelopment.

The Summer 2009 edition included:

  • Shoreham Society AGM - reports, discussions, and a call for more involvement to fill officer posts.
  • St Mary's Hall - an update as plans are revised and more objections are raised.
  • Southlands site proposals - amendments are made in response to criticisms about the proposed housing development.
  • The Grade Two listed buildings of Shoreham - No.17, Old Erringham.
  • Pond Road redevelopment - concerns grow as Adur Council prepares possible planning briefs.
  • Riverbank path - as concerns grow about the poor surface, hopes are raised for improvement work.

The Spring 2009 edition included:

  • St Mary's Hall development - the society's concerns and suggestions regarding controversian plans to redevelop the church hall.
  • The Grade Two listed buildings of Shoreham - No.16, Adur Lodge, The Street.
  • St Giles Place development - concerns about the proposals for infill housing on part of the Southlands site.
  • "Plane Janes" at Shoreham Airport - a show to celebrate the early history of the airport in poetry, music and song.
  • Strategic plan includes Marlipins - Sussex Archaeological Society's financial rescue plans include selling some properties but retaining the Marlipins Museum.
  • Harbouring hopes for honesty - a reflection on the likely impact of the Shoreham Harbour proposals, and an appeal for honest debate. Read the article here.
  • Consultation sought over river bank issues - residents in Old Shoreham Road raise concerns about waterside changes and council buck-passing.
