Do you have a favourite tree near your home that pleases you endlessly? Are you looking forward to the spring burst of leaf and blossom? Would you like to celebrate the tree related things happening in our tree deprived town and learn about more being planned?
Trees are marvellous things, aren’t they?
Producing oxygen, communicating with and supporting each other, removing air pollution, offering medicines and food, lifting our mood, providing shelter, reducing flood risk, housing whole ecosystems, storing carbon, reducing ambient temperatures in heatwaves.
You get the gist, of course, these are just some of the things trees do.
Join us for an veritable banquet of an evening starting with an aperitif of a little local tree history, some arboreal whimsy and curious facts, topped with a sprinkling of science. We will follow on with a main course of local tree initiatives, celebrating successes like that of the Poplar on the Brighton Road, and the Birch Tree Project. For dessert we will share exciting news about street tree projects in the pipeline and explore how you can enhance where you live with more trees.
Win a prize for your favourite Shoreham tree
After a digestif of a brief tree quiz, this cornucopia of good things will close with the result of the Shoreham Tree Picture Competition being announced and the prize being awarded! (Everyone will get to choose the winning tree photo).
Send a photograph taken by you of a favourite Shoreham tree. Your photo will be displayed here, so if you feel like winter is never ending, take a look and feel your spirits lift!
We look forward to seeing you on Friday 16 February 2024 at The Shoreham Centre at 7pm. £2 members, £3 non-members.
