An illustrated talk covering a brief history of the Sussex Archaeological Society. Founded in 1846, the Society is the oldest of its type in the country. The Society now opens and cares for a number of historic properties, museum collections and landscapes across the counties of East and West Sussex.

Emma O’Connor, the Society’s Museums Officer, will also discuss approaches to collecting and highlight just some of the more eccentric items in the collections. There will be a focus on the ‘salty flavour’ of the collections at Marlipins Museum, now celebrating a centenary of sharing the history of Shoreham.
