Do you live in Shoreham (Old or New)? Would you like to be involved in a community project that is about to start?

The Village Map Project is a development from maps created for the Old Shoreham Heritage Trail in 2024 and inspired by the West Sussex Millennium Maps project, which did not include Shoreham.

Old Shoreham is really BIG and this map will include historical, architectural and special features of the area: Buckingham Park, the east side of the River Adur from Swiss Gardens to the Old Toll-bridge and beyond to the flyover, the South Downs including Mill Hill. It will also include flora and fauna of the Downs and river valley within Old Shoreham, ancient verges and pathways, historic remains and contemporary features as layers of heritage.

Local illustrator, Karolyn Mnich, is leading the project and will also be running workshops for people of all ages and abilities to create some original artwork to be included in the main map, reflecting something special in Old Shoreham. The finished map will be reproduced as a centrepiece for new interpretation boards and will go on display as part of a large exhibition at the Marlipins Museum in 2026.

This project is part of Capturing Old Shoreham which includes several other maps and research and is supported by the National Trust and the Changing Chalk community grants scheme, funded by the National Lotteries Heritage Fund.
