Shaping West Sussex
This slide deck was shared at the Devolution Visions and Priorities Workshop run by Adur and Worthing District Council on 17 July 2025 in the Shoreham Centre. Councillor Jeremy Gardner also presented these slides at the ‘Big Debate’ on devolution convened by the Shoreham Society on 18 July 2025.
It outlines a list of options for Unitary Authorities to replace West Sussex County Council and its 7 District Councils in the proposed devolution plan for Sussex. It also includes a timetable of key dates for local consultation and preparation of a final proposal to be submitted to Government by the end of September.
AWDC Response to Devolution Consultation
This is a summary of the response that Adur and Worthing District Councils submitted in April to the Government’s public consultation on Sussex and Brighton devolution. It is based on views gained from a community leaders event they held at the end of March, in which the Shoreham Society participated, and other local consultation events.
The slides provide a useful insight into the Councils’ initial perspective on Devolution and the associated local government reorganisation that it will entail.
Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation
A presentation given by the Leader of Adur District Council, Jeremy Gardner, to the AREA AGM on 31 March 2025.
It outlines the implications for Adur of the proposed reorganisation of local government associated with the introduction of a Mayoral Combined County Authority for the whole of East and West Sussex and Brighton & Hove. Jeremy’s presentation also explains in more detail what the powers of the Mayor will be.
Adur Local Plan
A presentation given by Becky Allinson, Adur Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Strategic Planning, to the AREA AGM on 31 March 2025.
It explains what the Adur Local Plan is and why it matters. Her presentation to AREA focusses on the environmental policies which the new local plan will consider and how residents can engage. It concludes with an outline of the timetable until adoption of the new local plan in 2028.
Local Development Scheme 2025–2028
This is the new Local Development Scheme (LDS) which Adur District Council has published setting out the timetable for preparing an updated Adur Local Plan (ALP) between 2025 and 2028. The LDS is a public ‘project plan’ which identifies which planning policy documents will be produced and when there will be public consultation on drafts of the ALP before it is submitted. The updated Adur Local Plan is scheduled to be adopted in June 2028.
Priorities for Adur District Council
A report by the Chief Executive Officer of Adur and Worthing District Councils. This report sets out the plans and ambitions of the administration going forward, through 2022/2023 and beyond. The recommendations in the report were unanimously supported at a meeting of the Joint Strategic Sub-Committee (Adur) on 29 September 2022 and the plans for change and delivery set out in the report were noted and approved.

Joint Area Action Plan 2019
The Shoreham Harbour Joint Area Action Plan (JAAP) was adopted by Adur District Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and West Sussex County Council in 2019. The plan sets the strategic development and land-use priorities for the Shoreham Harbour Regeneration Area up to 2032, and contains the policies against which development management decisions within that area will be made.
Adur Local Plan 2017
The Adur Local Plan provides a comprehensive vision and strategy for the future of Adur (outside of the South Downs National Park) until 2032.
